Achieving at secondary school

I was travelling on the guided busway the other day and I heard a mum loudly tell her daughter that all she had to do was work hard and get good results in Year 7.

I know I don’t know what the history behind the comment was, but I was sitting there thinking really, it’s not just all about what you achieve academically though is it?

What about being encouraged to join extracurricular activities so she can achieve at school outside of the classroom too? This girl could be the next ladies football league champion, top pianist or pop star.

What about encouraging her to have the confidence to engage with all the new people she is going to meet? So she has a smooth transition into her new life.
